Canada’s Premiere Filipino Performing Arts Group celebrates the next generation of Filipino folk dance artists in “Ipasa”.

Vancouver, BC, Canada (May 2014): Internationally recognized Filipino Performing Folk Arts Group, Kababayang Pilipino (KP) celebrates its 22nd anniversary in a special presentation, “Ipasa” on June 28th, 2015 at the Massey Theatre in New Westminster, British Columbia. The Metro-Vancouver based group will showcase the beloved folk dances and music of the Philippines, a country that features a broad spectrum of dance styles and influences including indigenous, Arabic-Malayan, Spanish and western vestiges.

“Ipasa”, literally translated as “to pass on”, will feature the future of Kababayang Pilipino on stage- the KP Kids with participants aging from 5-17. “This next generation of young artists are the key to preserving and promoting the Philippine culture, which is KP’s mission” says Randy Romero, the group’s Artistic Director. In addition, the show will also be featuring KP’s adult company, and a world premiere choreographed by Robert Policarpio.

With an ensemble of over 100 members comprised mainly of first-generation Filipinos, Kababayang Pilipino is dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the Filipino folk heritage through its presentation of dance and music. Conceived for youth, by youth, this vibrant group provides the opportunity for its members to educate themselves and in turn, educate the community at large about the rich history and culture of the Filipino.
